Quality vinyl is the budget-friendly, low-maintenance choice and looks great; James Hardie fiber cement costs more but is fire-resistant, won't melt or crack, holds its ColorPlus finish, and typically lasts 30–50 years — which matters under Southeast sun, humidity and spring storms. What actually drives your siding price
A quote you can evaluate breaks these out as line items. If a quote arrives as one number on one line, you cannot compare it to anything — ask for it itemized.
